High-precision quick-change system for CNC milling

Face milling, shoulder milling, and finishing: URMA’s new milling tools deliver high performance, process reliability, and precision. Discover MX diamond and MX boronite!

URMA Milling – Precise, Reliable and Efficient

The proven, high-precision URMA RX quick-change interface is one of the core technologies of URMA milling systems. Its unique compensation for machine-side runout errors, enabled by a simple adjustment mechanism, ensures perfect face runout without the need for re-adjustment when changing cutting edges. The multi-edge solid carbide milling insert provides maximum stability and rigidity. This prevents vibration and micro-chipping even at high spindle speeds, increasing tool life and component quality.

PCD Milling of Aluminum

Aluminum is a relatively soft metal. Due to its properties and chemical reactions with certain cutting materials, it tends to adhere to the cutting edge, causing built-up edge formation. Diamond cutting materials such as polycrystalline diamond (PCD) do not chemically react with aluminum or other non-ferrous metals. Their high hardness ensures excellent dimensional stability and wear resistance.

PCD is a synthetically produced diamond cutting material with hardness close to that of natural diamond. PCD tools are therefore ideal for milling lightweight materials such as aluminum, magnesium, copper-based non-ferrous metals, composites, and fiber-reinforced plastics.

MX diamond: Aluminum and Lightweight Metals

With MX diamond, URMA offers a modular milling tool for machining non-ferrous metals. Thanks to its high number of PCD cutting edges, this face mill is ideally suited for high-volume machining of aluminum and non-ferrous metals.

CBN Milling of Steel

CBN (cubic boron nitride) is ideal for machining hard materials such as cast iron, powder-metallurgical materials, and hardened steel. These materials place high demands on the cutting material’s wear resistance and thermal stability. CBN does not chemically react with these materials, allowing it to retain its hardness and dimensional stability even at high temperatures while preventing built-up edge formation.

Since CBN is almost as hard as diamond, it is highly suitable for milling high-strength materials where conventional cutting materials quickly reach their limits.

MX boronite: Cast Iron, Hardened Steel, and Powder-Metallurgical Materials

MX boronite is a modular milling tool with CBN cutting edges, ideally suited for the cost-effective machining of high-strength materials such as cast iron, hardened steel, and powder-metallurgical materials – even in high-volume production.
