Precision that keeps evolving

10 years of progress – 1 machine

ZORN microone isn’t just a machine – it’s a system. It combines precision, high spindle quality, and maximum efficiency in the smallest possible footprint. Continuous development over the past decade has turned the micor machining center into the ideal solution for modern micro machining – setting new benchmarks in watchmaking and medical technology.

2015
Launch of the ZORN microone
The microone was developed with a clear objective: to create a milling machine specifically designed for small, ultra-precise components. From the beginning, the focus was on resource efficiency, stability, and accuracy. Its construction is based on a solid granite base and uses minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) instead of traditional coolant or flushing media. The first models were equipped with a ball screw on the Z-axis and a direct-drive tool spindle.
2020
Tool magazine upgraded to 40-tool standard
Starting in 2020, the direct-drive spindle was replaced with a steep-taper spindle interface. This change opened up new possibilities: the 3D probe was moved to a dedicated holder, and a 40 tool magazine significantly increased flexibility in tool management.
2021
Integrated chip conveyor
In response to increased chip volumes during longer automation cycles, a custom chip conveyor was developed in 2021. A floor-level conveyor belt with integrated deflectors guides chips to the side, where they fall into an auger screw. This screw transports the material to the rear of the machine, where the chips drop into a designated collection bin via a chute.
2022
Axis parameterisation of the spindle to X-Y-Z-B/C for Guilloché and Rabotage (diamond planing)Axis
In 2022, customer demand led to the development of new processes for guilloché engraving and diamond planing with stationary diamond tools. The goal was to achieve precise axis parameterisation between the spindle and all other axes to enable contour-parallel machining. This technology is particularly applied in design-oriented industries such as watchmaking and jewellery.
2023
ISO10 spindles from Diebold & Reckerth (Industry 4.0 upgrades)
Until 2023, the microone used a single spindle supplier with one interface type. To strengthen supply chain security, the spindle portfolio was expanded: Reckerth and Diebold joined as additional suppliers, bringing the total to three. Diebold also enabled the use of collet and shrink-fit technology with ISO10 interfaces. In parallel, the microone was fully equipped for Industry 4.0, with all key interfaces integrated – from shop floor data collection and barcode readers to digital work orders, process monitoring, remote maintenance, and integration with higher-level monitoring systems.
2024
Spindle thermal growth sensor
Reckerth and Diebold now offer an optional precision package with their spindles, which includes a thermal growth sensor that actively compensates for spindle length expansion. When ramping up from 0 to 50,000 rpm, thermal expansion of approx. 15–20 µm can occur within 10 seconds if left uncompensated – after which the dimension remains stable. The sensor corrects this from the moment the spindle starts – without increasing cycle times.
2025
Energy management & PC integration
Alongside new sensor technologies for process monitoring, energy management became a focus in 2025. Initial tests showed that axis power consumption could be used to detect early signs of tool wear. The result was a complete energy management system that monitors power consumption in real time. The data is visualized on a PC and can also be accessed and processed remotely if required.
2026
New control options: Siemens One & FANUC
In 2025, the integration of a second control system became a key focus. Starting in 2026, the previously used Siemens 840D sl will be replaced by its successor, Sinumerik One. For the first time, a FANUC control will also be offered – a clear advantage for existing FANUC users who can now enter the world of micro machining without having to switch to a different system.
